Waste and wastewater management: study visit to Brno, Czech Republic
On 2-9 November, the 8th one-week study tour for representatives of local governments, civil society organisations and journalists to the Czech Republic took place within the Partnerships Foundation programme (Brno, Czech Republic).
The topic of the visit was waste and wastewater management. Except for EECU's Projects and Programmes Coordinator, Andriy Kirchiv, the study tour was attended by representatives from Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Bucha, Khmelnytskyi, Kostopil, Krasyliv and Rokytne, a total of 16 people.
The participants were able to learn about various spatial, technical and financial solutions for waste sorting, recycling and potential reuse, composting of organic waste, as well as original approaches to wastewater treatment in the communities of South Moravia and Brno.
Taking into account Ukraine's invitation to join the EU membership negotiations, the organisers ensured that the group was informed in detail about the EU legislation and requirements in the context of solid waste and organic waste management, the quality of wastewater treatment, environmental protection and conservation, as well as approaches to educating and raising society in the spirit of respect for nature and its resources. The amount of received information is enormous, and some cases will be covered in our next publications.
At the moment, the EECU team expresses its sincere gratitude to the Partnership for Ukraine Foundation programme for the opportunity to learn about best practices and solutions and establish contacts for potential cooperation or even partnership with Czech municipalities, specialists and relevant companies!
