On March 1, applications for the Bicycle Communities competition will be accepted!
The second all-Ukrainian architectural competition “Bicycle Communities” is organized by the project team of Bike City consulting. Its goal is to develop a bicycle route project in one of the territorial communities of Ukraine free of charge.
Last year, in 2024, the Mykolaiv City Territorial Community won the Bicycle Communities competition. For it, the specialists of the Bike City consulting project team developed a 5 km long bicycle route “Namyv - Lisky - Center”. It was already partially implemented on the streets of the city last year and will be completed in the spring of 2025. A total of 10 territorial communities from 8 regions of Ukraine took part in the competition last year.
A territorial community can propose a bicycle route on the territory of a settlement or community to meet the transportation needs of residents or a bicycle route for recreational or tourist purposes.
The competition is open to all communities in Ukraine that have an approved document that provides for the development of a bicycle network (for example, the Concept for the Development of Bicycle Infrastructure, the Bicycle Infrastructure Development Plan, or another strategic or urban planning document that defines the development of the territorial community's bicycle network).
Applications from communities will be accepted on March 1 and will last until March 15, 2025.

During the full-scale war in Ukraine, bicycle transportation became an important element of community resilience and provided mobility for its residents. Therefore, bicycles should be developed as a full-fledged mode of transportation with the restoration of destroyed and damaged infrastructure during reconstruction. That is why the goal of the all-Ukrainian open competition “Bicycle Communities” is to create a comfortable and safe environment for cycling, which allows the widest possible range of people to use bicycles freely, increases mobility and safety in the community, reduces the burden on the environment and improves the health of residents.
