EECU became one of the associate partners of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Recovery of Ukraine
From now on, the member cities of the Association will have a wider range of opportunities in the post-war reconstruction process, as they can join the projects that the Alliance is working on.
“The Alliance will allow all European cities and regions to speak with one voice with the EU platform for rebuilding Ukraine. The Alliance will allow us to avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts and, through its extensive network, will be able to provide specific local expertise to our Ukrainian partners,” said Vasco Alves Cordeiro, President of the European Committee of the Regions.
The Alliance calls for a sustainable recovery of Ukraine based on the following principles:
- unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and right to defend its sovereignty;
- further European integration and access to European networks for Ukraine's local and regional authorities;
- a recovery strategy based on integrated planning at the territorial level, using systematic approaches for sustainable, green, smart and inclusive development of territories based on the principle of “rebuilding better than before”;
- focusing on improving good local/regional governance, including transparency, fighting corruption, protecting local media freedom, and promoting e-governance;
- promoting the development and modernization of the Ukrainian countryside as an important component of Ukraine's success;
- promoting local and regional business development and innovation.
The European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine was launched at the initiative of Ukraine in June 2022 by the Council of Europe and its partners, including European and Ukrainian associations of local and regional authorities, to coordinate their joint efforts to help in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.
