Conference on Energy Efficient Urban Renewal was held on March 7 in Kyiv
"Effective community recovery and development will be based on three things: public engagement, good governance, and an effective project office," summarized Taras Byk, Board Member of the NGO "Reconstruction and Development Agency".
The last panel of the conference on energy-efficient urban reconstruction "Planning for energy-efficient reconstruction in cities", which took place on March 7 in Kyiv, was moderated by EECU Executive Director Svyatoslav Pavliuk. Two representatives of EECU member communities, Mykola Borovets, Mayor of Zviagel, and Maksym Syniavin, Deputy Mayor of Trostianets, shared their communities' experience in energy efficiency and plans for 2024.
Oksana Kysil, national expert of the Covenant of Mayors, and Taras Byk, board member of the NGO "Agency for Reconstruction and Development," emphasized the importance of planning for community recovery.
"Short-term recovery projects should go hand in hand with the strategic development of communities. After all, there is a threat that short-term projects may diverge from the strategic vision. In addition, a separate institution will be needed to implement these plans," - experts emphasized during the discussion.
The speakers also agreed on the importance of involving condominiums in community planning processes in addition to government, NGOs, businesses, and youth, as they can implement energy efficiency projects for their buildings.
We thank the NGO "Ecoaction" and BE Berlin Economics GmbH for organizing the event and inviting us to participate.
