105 Ukrainian municipalities of various sizes have expressed interest in participating in the SUN4Ukraine initiative with the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050 at the latest. Twelve flagship municipalities were selected from among 33 applications from cities with a population of more than 50,000 inhabitants, which also expressed interest in developing citywide and cross-sectoral climate neutrality plans by 2050.
The selected municipalities will receive individualized expert support, participate in a comprehensive capacity building program, and will be able to collaborate with EU cities to share valuable knowledge.
The SUN4Ukraine initiative will enable Ukrainian cities to effectively integrate Climate Neutrality Plans into their recovery strategies with the support of the European Union.
The Sustainable Urban Development Network for Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Ukraine (SUN4Ukraine) is a four-year project aimed at supporting Ukrainian communities in their quest for climate neutrality. Following the severe devastation caused by the Russian war, the project focuses on systematic and effective recovery, aligning it with Ukraine's climate goals.
