European Sustainable Energy Week
European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is a major event dedicated to renewable energy and the efficient use of energy in Europe and beyond. It brings together public authorities, private companies, non-governmental organisations and consumers to promote energy efficiency initiatives and renewable energy sources for clean, safe and efficient energy.
EUSEW was established by the European Commission in 2006 and is organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) in close cooperation with the Directorate-General for Energy. Everyone brings something different to EUSEW. It is an ideal platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as for the creation of alliances and Energy Union, which is the basis of the EUSEW:
- Energy efficiency;
- Decarbonisation of the economy;
- Research, innovation and competitiveness.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAYS IN UKRAINE
The annual Covenant of Mayors Sustainable Energy Days, similar to the European Sustainable Energy Week, were conceived by the European Commission as a means of mobilizing residents, politicians, entrepreneurs, and representatives of NGOs for several days to reflect on the prospects for energy production and consumption in their city, region, country, and the world.
The goal of the Sustainable Energy Days is to raise awareness among local communities about modern ways to use energy efficiently and effectively and to promote the use of renewable energy sources in line with the European policy of combating global climate change.
By holding events for different audiences, we aim to promote the belief that sustainable energy technologies, behaviors, and management solutions are not only economically viable and beneficial to the environment, but also quite achievable and viable. This is a great opportunity to introduce the best local, national and foreign practices in this area to the general public, discover new ideas, and make new business contacts. It is a celebration where everyone - and the city authorities should set the tone here - can report on their achievements and publicly announce further steps towards energy self-sufficiency.
However, we should not overestimate the potential of mass events that take place only once a year, such as Sustainable Energy Days. Taken separately, they are unable to bring about a radical change in the minds of mass energy consumers and turn them into convinced supporters of energy saving, energy efficiency, and green energy. This requires constant information support for the reform of the national energy sector. In other words, a continuous, holistic, well-thought-out program of actions to raise awareness of various target groups and to involve them in the process in a practical way should be in place.
Therefore, the Sustainable Energy Days also serve as an additional reminder of the urgent need to launch a comprehensive national energy education program in Ukraine.
SUPPORT FOR EECU MEMBER COMMUNITIES IN ORGANIZING EVENTS FOR THE SED
As a support structure for the Covenant of Mayors, EECU has been helping its member communities to organize Sustainable Energy Days since the beginning of the project. In order for the EECU team to better plan activities to support the SED events in communities, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the process of applying for support.
What kind of support can EECU communities expect?
- ideological (support with the search for ideas for events - first, you need to have an online consultation with an EECU contact person who will provide a brief on your request);
- resourceful (handouts, merchandise from the Association, toys for different age groups depending on the type of event, adaptation of the banner layout for printing for the community);
- expertise (assistance in finding experts for thematic events);
- informational (publication of information about the conducted SED in the community on the EECU resources, in the FB group Sustainable Energy Days in Ukraine).
Every year, communities that hold events in the spring can additionally register them on the European Sustainable Energy Week platform. The registration dates change every year, so follow the updates on our information resources or on the European Commission website.
