During two days of visit to Slovenia, the country presented its energy efficiency achievements developed under the EXCITE project to representatives from Ukraine, Macedonia, Romania and Bulgaria. The participants were hosted by the Velenje community, which is the sixth largest city in Slovenia.
On the first day, the delegation visited the waste incineration plant in Celje, near Velenje, which converts waste into heat or electricity. More about the plant can be found here. The group also managed to visit the restored historic building in the centre of Celje, the Celjski Dom, which was built between 1905 and 1907. The building's restoration and energy modernisation project took 18 months to complete and is an example of a public-private partnership. As a result of the restoration, the facility's energy savings are 23% annually. You can read more about the building here.
On the second day, the participants visited a biomass heating plant in Slovenj Gradec. You can read more about the plant here.
In addition, the programme included visits to the Celje Historical Museum, the Velenje Coal and Mining Museum, and a city tour of Slovenj Gradec.
FYI, the EXCITE project is coming to an end in November 2023, so the participants have been visiting the participating countries abroad, and Slovenia was the last country to present its achievements.
