Ukraine signed new commitments to implement the Paris Climate Agreement at the COP-28 climate summit in Dubai.
In particular, these include:
- a commitment to work together to triple the world’s installed renewable energy generation capacity to at least 11,000 GW by 2030, taking into consideration different starting points and national circumstances;
- a commitment to work together in order to collectively double the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvements from around 2% to over 4% every year until 2030;
- Commit to put the principle of energy efficiency as the "first fuel” at the core of policymaking, planning, and major investment decisions.
However, there is a caveat. What is our plan to fulfil our obligations under martial law? After all, the signed commitments do not offer any specific actions.
We look forward to the conclusion of the annual climate conference and the publication of clear tools for achieving the signed commitments.
