Ukraine and the European Green Deal
The second quarter of 2023 was marked by active EU-level reform efforts in areas related to the EGD. It was also accompanied by the continued stabilisation of energy markets after the crisis that had been ongoing since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The relative stabilisation of the situation, in particular, was reflected in the gradual increase of attention to long-term EU green transformation projects and the introduction of relevant financing mechanisms as well as a slight decrease in the intensity of anti-crisis measures.
At the same time, the EU continued to implement many of the legislative reforms launched in the energy, environmental and climate change sectors in previous reporting periods. The quarter also saw some progress in reforming Ukraine's EGD areas and strengthening cooperation with the EU. Among the positive trends we can highlight the activities aimed at reforming the support schemes for renewable energy generation, waste management and Ukraine's involvement in new mechanisms of cooperation with the EU, including the Seville process.
