The show progress in almost all 6 indicators: results of the EEA audit in Zhytomyr
A week ago, representatives of the European Energy Award's National Office in Ukraine audited Zhytomyr City Council. This procedure takes place every four years and makes it possible to assess the community's progress in implementing energy-saving technologies and improving the efficiency of energy management in the city.
According to the EEA program, the audit of the city's compliance with the principles of sustainable development is conducted in six areas:
- development and territorial planning
- municipal buildings and facilities
- energy supply and distribution
- mobility
- internal organization
- communication and cooperation
“Our city already has the experience of successfully passing the audit and receiving the European Energy Award in 2019. This was a recognition of the efforts of the city authorities and utility companies to improve energy efficiency. However, current certification is even more important, as in times of war, the resilience of urban infrastructure is critical to maintain normal life for the community. I am grateful to the entire team working on the implementation of the EEA in Zhytomyr,” commented City Mayor Sergii Sukhomlyn.
Despite the current challenges (covid-19, full-scale invasion of Russia), the results of the preliminary assessment show significant progress of the community in the area, which allows to strengthen the position of Zhytomyr among Ukrainian cities and to declare the city internationally as a reliable partner in the implementation of sustainable development projects.
