"The main problem is the lack of shelters": results of a webinar with Danfoss Ukraine
- 9% are actual shelters;
- 23% are radiation shelters;
- 68% are the simplest shelters and dual-purpose structures (these include basements of apartment buildings, parking lots, etc.).
According to DBN B.2.2-5, civil protection structures must create appropriate conditions for people to stay for a certain period of time (up to 48 hours) and ensure an appropriate degree of protection against the predictable effects of hazards that may arise as part of the hazards of an emergency, military (combat) operations and terrorist acts.
The simplest shelters and SPSs do not always meet the basic requirements of civil protection facilities, and often it is impossible to verify this. We are grateful to our partners from Danfoss Ukraine for raising this issue. We believe that community representatives have gained the necessary knowledge to plan the first systemic steps to solve the problem of shelters.
