The first cellular energy system. Dolyna community
Dolyna, one of the first cities to join the Association of Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine in 2007, is currently working on an energy autonomy project that will allow the community to operate as an energy island, disconnected from the Ukrainian grid for several days.
According to Mayor Ivan Dyriv, Dolyna is the first community in Ukraine to implement such a project to create a cellular energy network.
A cellular energy system is a set of energy generation and storage centres in a certain territory that are connected to each other and to consumption centres.
Under normal circumstances, the system is expected to operate as usual, in a single grid. And in the event of a force majeure situation, it will be able to switch to alternative power sources. These include wind, solar and gas-fired generators.
The head of the community of Dolyna has not yet named the timeframe for the project implementation, as it all depends on the funds to be raised from European partners. The facilities that will be primarily powered by a separate network are critical infrastructure: hospitals, kindergartens, schools.
