Sustainable Energy Week in Lviv
- Renewable energy hackathon at the Lviv Higher Vocational School of Computer Technologies and Construction;
- upgrading bicycles to produce energy and charge gadgets;
- awarding the participants of the video contest on winterisation and the best renewable energy projects;
- creating the first green-roofed cat house in Ukraine together.
These and other events took place last week in Lviv as part of the Sustainable Energy Week. The events were organised by the Energy Management and Education Departments of Lviv City Council and supported by partners of Lviv City Council: Covenant of Mayors - East, GIZ Ukraine, Association of Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine, and NGO Plato.
The events were attended by nursery school children, pupils of schools and vocational education institutions, and students. Children received prizes for their active participation.
One of the most interesting events was the creation of a cat house with a green roof.
"We borrowed the idea of a green roof from the Czechs: the roof has many layers and retains water, which can then be reused. Since cats live in the nursery, together with the NGO Plato, we developed a model of a green roof in the city nursery," explained the Lviv City Council's Energy Management and Education Department.
"We have been holding Sustainable Energy Days for many years and each time we try to come up with more interesting events to promote energy efficiency, sustainable development, and environmental awareness among Lviv residents, as the last heating season showed that these are useful skills," said Dima Pfister, Head of the Energy Management Department and coordinator of the Energy Week.
