The original guide in English was created in 2021 by the international NGO "ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainable Development" within the framework of the European Commission's Smart Cities Challenge initiative.
During the event, we will find out:
- what role cities and territorial communities play as centres of economic activity;
- why it is now time to join forces and develop Local Green Deals (LGDs);
- how relevant and useful the handbook is for Ukrainian cities and territorial communities, in particular, given the upcoming post-war reconstruction.
We will also present 10 basic principles that are fundamental to LGD and make them unique among management approaches to sustainable development.
We will also talk about the financing of LGD, namely the possibility of reallocating budgets, using EU and national funds, and attracting private investment to support community initiatives.
The European Green Deal is an effective tool for turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities and moving towards decoupled economic growth and climate neutrality, and should be used effectively.
The guide is designed to help cities and communities do just that, and will become an important tool in addressing current and future challenges on the path to climate neutrality by 2060.
The event is organised with the financial support of the European Union as part of the project "Integrating Sustainable Development in Ukraine in line with the European Green Deal".
The project is being implemented by a consortium of NGOs, including the Resource and Analysis Centre "Society and Environment", the Association "Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine", the Ukrainian Leadership Academy, the Women's Energy Club of Ukraine, DZYGA and PLATO under the general coordination of DIXI GROUP.
