“New Center of Warsaw”: an example of greening the three main squares of the city
WhiteMAD visualization
The Warsaw City Council presented projects for the reconstruction of three squares in the city center: Teatralna, Bankowa, and Zalizny Góra. The spaces, which are currently dominated by concrete, asphalt, and car traffic, are to be transformed into green oases with a priority for pedestrians and cyclists. The locations will also be equipped with public transportation routes, such as buses and trams.
New functional and spatial concepts were developed as a result of the design process and consultations. Public consultations were held in June, November, and December 2023. They were held in the form of workshops where residents and experts were invited to co-design.
We believe that this is a great example of how pedestrians can be given greater priority in the city, which in turn promotes a new model of urban mobility.
Interactive photos on the website show how the city plans to green its squares.
