EECU team joined the European Sustainable Energy Week by planting Jerusalem artichoke!
For the second year in a row, the EECU team, together with the pupils of the Mamdaryn private kindergarten, have been planting Jerusalem artichoke in pots near the office in Lviv. The event is held to encourage children to adopt a conscious lifestyle and to draw the attention of city residents to the problem of climate change.
Why Jerusalem artichoke?
The initiator of the campaign is Serhiy Kosharuk, who grows the plant professionally and knows all the pros and cons of this process. Jerusalem artichoke is rich in vitamins, fiber, minerals and amino acids, and its tubers contain inulin carbohydrates, which are broken down in the human body to form fructose, and therefore are a valuable food for diabetics.
This year's Sustainable Energy Days coincide with a difficult situation in the country's energy system, so the relevance of such events has increased several times. As a reminder, the dry stem of Jerusalem artichoke can be converted into biofuel (chips, briquettes, pellets), so the plant is a great option for events within the Sustainable Energy Days!
