Competition for the development of a bicycle route in communities

We invite communities to take part in the competition for the development of a bicycle route.

Ukrainian open competition "Bicycle Communities" was announced among Ukrainian communities for the free development of a bicycle route project. The annual architectural competition for the infrastructure arrangement of a bicycle route in communities is organized by U-Cycle (NGO "Kyiv Cyclists Association") in partnership with the Bike City consulting project team.

During the full-scale war, bicycle transportation has become an important element of community resilience and has provided mobility for its residents. Therefore, bicycles should be developed as a full-fledged mode of transportation with the restoration of destroyed and damaged infrastructure during reconstruction. That is why the goal of the competition "Bicycle Communities" is to create a comfortable and safe environment for cycling, which allows the widest possible range of people to use bicycles freely, increases mobility and safety in the community, reduces the burden on the environment and improves the health of residents.

A territorial community can suggest a bicycle route in its territory to meet the transportation needs of residents or a bicycle route for recreational or tourist purposes.

The competition is open to all communities in Ukraine that have an approved document that provides for the development of a bicycle network (for example, the Concept for the Development of Bicycle Infrastructure, the Bicycle Infrastructure Development Plan, or another strategic or urban planning document that defines the development of the territorial community's bicycle network).
